Clear blue skies greeted Cafs staff as it came time to celebrate International Women's Day 2020.

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the economic, social, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

International Women's Day (IWD) has been running for well over a century, the first IWD gathering was in 1911  it was supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.

Cafs was very pleased to this year welcome our guest speaker and local Ballarat women's advocate Shani Cain. Shani is certainly an inspiration, at 25 Shani is the CEO of Australia's largest youth-run international development organisation, Oaktree.

Shani also has a Masters degree in Humanitarian Assistance from Deakin University, coupled with degrees in Commerce and International Studies.

Shani is passionate about female and youth empowerment, sustainability and equality. In her own words, she is "someone who loves life and believes in the ability to change the world and actively seeks opportunities to do so".

Shani is a Ballarat local, she's passionate about engaging young people in regional and rural Australia. In her spare time, she teaches yoga and hikes wherever possible, she's conquered Mount Everest Basecamp and the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Impressive!
